AHA'S AND ACTION:
Here are 2 thoughts, 2 inspirations, and 1 question for you to reflect on this week…
2 THOUGHTS FROM ME
I grew up in a family where being right meant you won, you were smarter, and when you got the last word boy did that feel good. In the moment, it feels solid to be right— like you’re standing on firm ground. But I’ve paid the price for this stance in my life – I’ve hurt people’s feelings and damaged relationships along the way… and I’m not proud of that, but I’ve learned from it.
What has surprised me is how freeing it feels to let go of needing to win. When I drop the need to convince, explain, or prove, I can just be in the moment and have a conversation. I listen more intently. I’m more curious about the other person and what they have to say, and I’ve become slower to respond from a place of love and understanding. Now I just have to forgive myself for the times when I screwed things up.
2 INSPIRATIONS FROM OTHER PEOPLE
“It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.” by Mark Twain.
“The mind is a wonderful servant, but a terrible master.” by David Foster Wallace.
1 QUESTION FOR YOU
Where in your life right now might choosing a little more freedom — instead of being right — change how something feels or unfolds?
