AHA'S AND ACTION:
Here are 2 thoughts, 2 inspirations, and 1 question for you to reflect on this week…
2 THOUGHTS FROM ME
Expectations are not necessary — and yes, they are rampant in our world. Imagine the reduced stress and anxiety in your life if you didn’t have any expectations at all. Expectations give me a quiet way to put the blame on everyone else. I’ll assume someone knows what I need. I’ll assume things should go a certain way. And when they don’t, I feel disappointed or frustrated — even though I never made a clear agreement with anyone, including myself.
What’s helped me simplify my life is learning the difference between expectations and agreements. Expectations live quietly in my head – only I know what they are. Agreements are creative and spoken out loud. When I slow down enough to talk things through with someone— to ask, to clarify, to listen — we can come to an understanding and create an agreement together. It’s crazy for me to think that anyone would know what I am thinking or that I could possibly know what they are thinking. But I did think this way for many years.
2 INSPIRATIONS FROM OTHER PEOPLE
“The quality of your life is the quality of your communication.” by Tony Robbins.
“Assumptions are the termites of relationships.” by Henry Winkler.
1 QUESTION FOR YOU
Who is bothering you and how could you create an agreement together that would improve your relationship?
