AHA'S AND ACTION:
Here are 2 thoughts, 2 inspirations, and 1 question for you to reflect on this week…
2 THOUGHTS FROM ME
Is there really such thing as helpful criticism? I used to think there was, but I was wrong. I can’t think of a time when someone criticized me, and it felt helpful. And when I am being critical or being criticized, I am not in a good feeling. I’ve learned that the way for me to have more meaningful conversations with others is to notice my state of mind and look for a good feeling. To remain in feelings of compassion and understanding and curiosity in each conversation that I have. This has been useful for me to pay attention to.
When I approach a person with love and curiosity and compassion the result is always better. When I stop criticizing, and I start listening for what really matters to the other person the conversation always goes better. If something is not going as I ‘expected’ I can make a simple request instead of complaining and criticizing, and there is a much better chance that we will be able to create an agreement with one another. I’ve realized any form of criticism is not helpful or useful at all.
2 INSPIRATIONS FROM OTHER PEOPLE
“You don’t get what you want by telling people what’s wrong with them. You get what you want by asking for what you want.” by Steve Chandler.
“The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.” by George Bernard Shaw.
1 QUESTION FOR YOU
Where in your life right now might a simple, honest request create more connection than another round of criticism and blaming?
