AHA'S AND ACTION:
Here are 2 thoughts, 2 inspirations, and 1 question for you to reflect on this week…
2 THOUGHTS FROM ME
I’ve noticed how different life looks depending on my mood. When I am in a low mood everything feels bothersome—conversations don’t go so well, decisions feel tougher to make, and even small things seem loaded with meaning. Nothing outside has changed, yet my experience of it all has. So, what do I do? I choose to think about something that excites me, or that I am grateful for, or what I am going to work on that will move the needle. I remember that I am the thinker and this usually helps.
Now sometimes when I am in a really low mood this isn’t so easy to do. So, I focus on containing the feeling and not letting it control my every move, and I get into action working towards something that feels good. Inevitably my mood will shift, will raise, will get better and those low mood feelings just go away on their own. This takes practice and it works. It is how it works every time.
When my mood lifts, perspective returns without effort. Problems shrink. Compassion comes back online. It reminds me that clarity isn’t something I get by working harder—it’s something that shows up naturally when my mind settles. Remembering that my mood will change and that in the meantime I don’t need to do anything rash. Now, I’m a human being just like you so of course this is hard for me to see sometimes. But what helps is my understanding of how we create our experience moment to moment, and my openness to seeing more.
2 INSPIRATIONS FROM OTHER PEOPLE
“Nothing is either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.” by William Shakespeare.
“The mind is like water. When it’s agitated, it’s hard to see. When it’s calm, everything becomes clear.” by Bruce Lee.
1 QUESTION FOR YOU
When something feels overwhelming this week, could it be helpful to notice your mood first—and let clarity come later?
