AHA'S AND ACTION:
Here are 2 thoughts, 2 inspirations, and 1 question for you to reflect on this week…
2 THOUGHTS FROM ME
I used to think stillness and action were opposites. I was either doing something or doing nothing. Honestly, I thought resting, reflecting, and being present was kind of lazy and unproductive. I grew up hearing things like ‘lots of time for sleeping when you are dead’ so that may have had something to do with how I thought about this. I really believed that if I was grinding and getting things done that was the way to live. I’ve come to see that when I quiet my mind is when I take the most effective action, do the next best thing, say the right words. I’ve realized that the most effective next step I take usually comes after a moment of stillness, not before it.
When my mind is busy or pressured, my actions feel reactive and forced not creative and imaginative. Sometimes it’s hard not to react. It’s almost instinctual for us to react but there’s a difference between running out to save a kid from getting hit by a car and screaming back at someone who screamed at you. Both feel right but…you know where I am going with this. When I remember that I am the creator of my experience I can choose to react or to create in each moment. It’s up to me.
2 INSPIRATIONS FROM OTHER PEOPLE
“Action that comes from clarity is different than action that comes from anxiety.” by Steve Chandler.
“Don’t just do something. Stand there.” by Rochelle Myer.
1 QUESTION FOR YOU
Today when someone says something that bothers you can you think before you speak? Can you speak only when you feel compassion toward the person?
