AHA'S AND ACTION:
Here are 2 thoughts, 2 inspirations, and 1 question for you to reflect on this week…
2 THOUGHTS FROM ME
It is interesting to me to see how convincing my feelings can be. When I feel anxious, it really looks like something is wrong. When I feel irritated, it often looks like someone else has caused my irritation. In the moment, it rarely occurs to me that what I’m feeling is coming from me – from thought moving through me—not from the situation itself.
Just a couple of days ago Dave said something at a family gathering that really bugged me. I went to bed angry at him and the next morning I was greeted with coffee and a big apology. BUT I decided I was gonna stay angry and I did not accept his apology. A couple hours later – after a good workout and some time to reflect I began to think about what I do like about him– I realized that I was being ridiculous. I let it go. We hugged it out and it was over.
When I remember that feelings are temporary and thought-created, something softens. I don’t have to fix the feeling or solve the problem right away. As thinking settles, clarity tends to show up on its own. Nothing outside has to change first.
Every single one of us has human frailties. Yes, Dave messed up that night but guess what - I have made mistakes too. Remembering this is what helps me to create wonderful relationships in my life. It’s what helps Dave and I to continue to have a great relationship. And it can help you as well.
2 INSPIRATIONS FROM OTHER PEOPLE
“Feelings are your barometer. They tell you the quality of your thinking in the moment.” by George Pransky.
“We suffer more often in imagination than in reality.” by Seneca.
1 QUESTION FOR YOU
When your feelings change, do you notice how the situation often seems to change with them?
